The Welsh government has launched a fully-funded accelerator for high-growth firms and new grants to invest in new technology.
The Business Wales Start-Up Accelerator is open to Wales-based founders with high-growth business ideas who can demonstrate potential to reach £1 million in annual turnover, create 10 or more full-time jobs and export internationally by 2029.
The programme runs from 29 September to 10 December and includes expert mentoring, weekly webinars, masterclasses and peer networking. It also also incorporates AI tools to accelerate market research, alongside PR and marketing opportunities to raise the profile of participants’ businesses.
Applications close on 9 September, and interested entrepreneurs can apply here.
Welsh businesses can also apply for the latest round of funding from the SMART Capital Equipment Fund.
Grants of between £50,000 and £250,000 are available for organisations that can show how investment in new equipment or technology will improve productivity and bring wider benefits to Wales. The fund can support the purchase and installation of machinery and equipment that helps improve performance and stay competitive in the future.
The funding round is open to businesses, universities, research organisations, further education colleges, third sector organisations and NHS Health Boards operating in Wales.
Adam Price, Cabinet minister for enterprise, connectivity and energy, said:
“Wales has no shortage of great ideas, talent and ambition, and we are proud to support organisations to innovate, grow and succeed. Innovation is vital to driving productivity and helping us to achieve our wider ambition of closing the productivity gap with the rest of the UK.
“By supporting investment in modern equipment, automation and advanced technologies, this fund will help organisations increase productivity, strengthen competitiveness and create long-term economic value for Wales.
“I encourage eligible organisations to explore the fund and consider applying for this valuable support.”
Applications for the SMART Capital Equipment Fund are open until 23:59 on 25 September 2026. More details here.
