This hopefully demonstrates just how important it is to get your brand in the first few results – nobody is going to go sifting through unless they are doing some kind of research project.

Adwords are a paid-for service. It can be a great tool if used correctly, but there are so many simple and free things you can try first that it’s not worth rushing in and spending your entire marketing budget on it without first doing your homework.

A responsive website is one that responds to the device it is being viewed on and shrinks itself accordingly. This site is responsive, try shrinking the screen and you’ll see the content rearranges itself to make sure it is pleasing to the eye at all sizes. These days, so many searches are done on smartphones that you really cannot afford to make things difficult for your customers!

Content is King!  Write useful, engaging content, have something to offer your users, and they will return.

You might think that say, a pizza shop, would move further up the Google listings by crowbarring the word ‘pizza’ into every sentence – not so. Google is on to these sorts of tricks, and you will be penalised for it.

You might think your site is doing really well because you always appear really high up on the Google search results – unfortunately, it could just be because this is the best result for you, specifically.

So, in conclusion: fill out meta tags and descriptions, use keywords but don’t over do it, link back to your articles on blogs and Twitter, make the most of social media and focus on producing good content.
