The Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) has officially confirmed the briefs for its ministers following the changes announced by new prime minister Andy Burnham.
BIST is the new name for the Department for Business and Trade following the closure of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). The majority of the responsibilities of DSIT have moved to BIST led by business, innovation, science and technology secretary Jonathan Reynolds.
As revealed by SMEWeb on 23 July, former entrepreneur Lord Leong is the new small business minister. His full title is small business and enterprise minister.
Blair McDougall, the previous small business minister, is now minister for reindustrialisation in a joint role with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Baroness Lloyd of Effra is minister for space, cyber and regulatory reform, Anas Sarwar is minister for trade, Kate Dearden is minister for the future of work, and Chris McDonald is minister for science, innovation and investment.
As previously announced, Kanishka Narayan is minister for artificial intelligence. He attends Cabinet meetings.
