Low-carbon technology to be showcased on global stage

The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) has unveiled key highlights of its 2021 International Events Programme, offering UK-based SMEs an opportunity to drive innovation on a global stage.

The so-called UK Pavilion will play host to over 50 of the UK’s leading companies developing the latest innovation in next-generation low carbon technologies.

The programme includes:

  • The Battery Show Europe – 18-20 May, Messe Stuttgart, Germany
  • JSAE Show – 26-28 May, Pacifico Yokohama, Japan
  • The Battery Show North America 14-16 September, Novi, Michigan
  • SIAT (Symposium on International Automotive Technology 29 September – 1 October, Pune, India
  • COP26 1-12 November, Glasgow.

Delivered in partnership with the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade, SMMT and Innovate UK, these events will offer participants the opportunity for introductions to potential partners in the international supply chain – including OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

Previous exhibitors on the UK Pavilion are said to have have seen a major uplift in international orders and even developed trade deals from their involvement.

Philippa Oldham, Stakeholder Engagement Director at the Advanced Propulsion Centre, said: “Following a curtailment of the 2020 programme due to the pandemic, our international events programme offers an ideal opportunity for international suppliers to reunite for the first time.

“The Pavilion also provides a vital meeting hub for innovators in powertrain technology – all with the reassurance of Covid-safe practices being firmly in place.

“The programme promotes the UK as a global leader in the automotive sector and encourages foreign investment for the SMEs it supports. We have an extremely impressive list of companies joining us on the UK Pavilion in 2021 to champion UK industry, and now is the time for further SMEs to come on board to help drive awareness of our pioneering role in emerging technologies.”

In order to deliver the Government’s net-zero emissions targets, the development of new powertrain technologies is considered key, and is also a prerequisite for the UK’s green recovery post-COVID-19. Central to the UK’s strategy is the APC -providing support and funding for the research, development and industrialisation of technologies that aim to accelerate the realisation of net zero-emission vehicles.
