Finger in the air research
I recently attended the Growth Strategies Conference in London – they had a rather cute vote-catching system. Delegates had to press a button on the handsets and votes and results came up immediately.
The results of the votes were as follows:
The biggest factor restricting growth is:
31% skilled staff
23% economic climate
18% lack of capital
11% competition
9% resource prices
8% regulations
“Teams and people” is the big issue for most businesses.
So what are you doing to make sure:
1. you are attracting the right calibre of people…?
2. they have the best tools and skills to do the best job…?
3. they don’t leave…?
These questions look bland and trite… but actually they are at the heart of your business.
I repeat… what are you doing to make sure:
1. you are attracting the right calibre of people…?
2. they have the best tools and skills to do the best job…?
3. they don’t leave…?
