SME Web brings the latest development in cloud computing.

Vodafone (LON:VOD) has today announced that it intends to grow its footprint in the expanding cloud computing space.

SME Web has noted an increasing amount of interest in cloud computing as an alternative to costly traditional IT layouts.

Vodafone made these intentions clear through the announcement of a 'strategic partnership' with Decho Corporation - a wholly owned subsidiary of EMC - to develop a range of cloud-based services for both SMEs and consumers.

Vodafone shares are 0.63% up on the FTSE 100 this morning.

A new product called Vodafone PC Backup will be developed in line with the strategic partnership.

The idea is to enable SMEs and other customers of the service to simply and securely back up work-related or personal digital content from their computer to a remotely hosted site.

Once a customer has backed-up their digital content they know it is protected and that they will always be able to access it, even if their primary device is lost, stolen or otherwise unavailable.

However no prices or detailed package information has been forwarded by Vodafone so SME customers looking to increase their cloud computing capabilities through this service are to wait a while longer.
