The best of #pollingday on Twitter
It’s polling day for UK and national elections, and among other key decisions London will be choosing a new Mayor. It’s a big day, it’s had some obstacles along the way, and now SME brings you the best of what Twitter has to say about the whole affair…
There were several trending hashtags, first up the misleading #VoteConservative….
If you want to protect the rich & the tax dodgers, privatise the NHS & generally screw over those less fortunate than you #voteconservative— Louise Inman (@Inwoman) May 5, 2016
Happy with a society in which dishonesty is a virtue, greed is gecko-good & the vulnerable dying off is a positive? #VoteConservative— Tessa Foley (@Unhelpable) May 5, 2016
#VoteConservative and screw disabled people, welcome zero hour contracts, watch the NHS be sold off. Need I continue?— James (@JMSGDLL) May 5, 2016
Although the hashtag appeared to be used mainly ironically, it did gain some traction with the #backZac2016 Conservative supporters
Barnet was trending as the polling stations suffered an administrative error and voters were being turned away….
London Mayor Election DISASTER as thousands turned away and names left off polling list https://t.co/4KLAVpBFNH— carol allen#BeLeave (@lorac22allen) May 5, 2016
So now I am shuttling up to Barnet's electoral office with photos of their ID to demand democracy. Because I am a good friend, & a pushy cow— Tara Mulholland (@tara_mulholland) May 5, 2016
Barnet Council is well known as "the council that privatized itself". This kind of fiasco is the result. https://t.co/mnvArzyXNi— Gareth Brading (@gbrading) May 5, 2016
And lastly, because it’s Twitter, #dogsatpollingstations…
