Jardine of London is a new British luxury handbag brand. SME caught up with founder Mary Jardine to find out more...

We are a luxury handbag brand disrupting the market with timeless designs that, unlike those of our competitors, do not feature excessively ostentatious branding. Our handbags are for women who want a luxury handbag but would prefer something subtle and elegant rather than one of the overly flashy designs that have saturated the market. I am proud to support British manufacturing and all my handbags are made in England. We have so far made bags for Keira Knightley, Naomie Harris, Emma Watson, Rosamund Pike and Naomi Watts. My inspiration for my first bag came from childhood memories of my leather music case – hence the music bar detail. I always wondered what it would be like to have something incredibly chic with lovely clean lines incorporating the bar but at the same time being practical. I feel I have achieved it with the Jardine of London ‘City’ Bag. One of my dreams was to have my own brand luxury handbag business and finally I have realised my dream. My inspiration for the gold star used in my brand name comes from the Jardine Star Brooch which was left to Queen Elizabeth II in 1981 by Lady Jardine. The brooch has eight points and a diamond is placed on a knife-wire between each point.
