GB Energy Supply is a new company that aims to cut energy costs for its customers by running a highly efficient business and keeping our own costs low. SME caught up with MD Luke Watson to find out more…
Where did the idea come from?
We saw a gap in the energy market, quite simply. I had worked in the energy industry for a number of years and saw a great opportunity. The energy market is changing so rapidly and customers are growing more and more unhappy with the big 6 providers, which are rapidly losing market share. The opportunity was there for us to offer a great value alternative.
Could you tell me a bit about your product/services range?
The energy market is confusing, and most customers and small businesses don’t have a clue about the complexities of the myriad tariffs on offer. Our solution is to keep our product range as simple as possible. We have a fixed price tariff and a variable tariff. They both cost the same at the moment, £765 p.a, and neither has an exit fee.
We can offer such a good price because we keep costs low. That is partly achieved by refusing to pay to appear on price comparison sites, so out products are available to anyone directly through our website.
How would you describe your business’ ideology?
We want to be the best value supplier in Great Britain. That means consistently competing on price and never using headline rates to just attract customers in a short burst, offering great customer service and treating all customers fairly, by getting rid of exit fees for example.
Tell me about your role – what does a typical day look like for you?
I’m happy to say that there’s no such thing as a typical day – that’s what keeps working in this industry so enjoyable. As the owner of a rapidly growing new business, I face new challenges on a daily basis and working with the team here to come up with original and innovative ways to overcome them is a great experience.
