Case study - Breathing Space

Breathing Space HR is a consultancy specialising in people management at smaller businesses.. SME caught up with managing consultant Suzie Bogle to hear the firm’s vision for the future…

• How do you use social media? Does it help you engage with your client base?

Yes, we use social media and I try to blog regularly about my thoughts on HR and management. Social media can be a great source of new ideas and I love sparking off new ideas. In terms of engagement with our clients – the best way for that is to be present for them. Face to face, on-site in order to get a really good feel for the organisation.

• What is your vision for the future? Are you looking to expand?

I am very excited about the future, particularly up&up. The idea of a staged programme is nothing new, however, it is the application of a quality cycle that controls the development, always checking on the foundations, which makes it all come together.

My experience of HR in both corporates and SMEs is that we tend to forget to check the foundations and work on the “softer” elements of HR such as “engagement” and “development”. Business people know that controlling your assets, ensuring they are working at the optimal level is key to high performance – why do we forget this with the employee resource?

I want to see how far we can develop up&up for the SME business sector;’ I see it as a key model for HR in the future. My company currently delivers the programme, however it can potentially be delivered by other consultancies and internal HR departments as it gives a clear framework for delivery of HR management.
