Round Up - Volkswagen, Pure Gym, LV=

German carmaker Volkswagen saw sales reverse by 1.6% in March as it continued to be rocked by the emission test scandal. However, car sales in the whole of Europe were more positive rising 5.7% to 1.7billion compared with last month.

The UK’s largest gym operator Pure Gym has posted a strong 46% growth in annual earnings to £28million on sales up 82% to £125million. The group, which counts Olympian cyclist Sir Chris Hoy as a brand ambassador, said it had been helped by a re-brand and the acquisition of LA Fitness which boosted its presence in London and the South East. Member numbers rose 62% to 670,000.

Insurer LV= has said that Mike Rogers is to step down as chief executive after ten years in the role. He said it had been a privilege to lead the group but that a decade in charge was a significant milestone and “now feels the right time to let a new team shape the next decade”. LV= said the search for a successor is underway with Rogers continuing to lead the business for the rest of the year and into 2017 as required.
