Round Up - Heathrow, Johnston Press

Heathrow Airport claimed its case to build the UK’s next runway was strengthened today after seeing record passenger numbers last month. The airport, which is vying with rival Gatwick to add new runway capacity, said a best-ever 6.1million passengers in March was up 2.5% on the same month last year. Demand for journeys to China, Mexico, India and the Middle East was strong. Chief executive John Holland-Kaye said: “With expansion we can supercharge British trade by opening up 40 new long haul trading links.”

Johnston Press has completed the acquisition of the I newspaper from Independent Print Limited. “This is a transformational acquisition for Johnston Press. By joining with Johnston the combined circulation will be equal to 9% of national daily circulation, making us the fourth largest player in the market,” said chief executive Ashley Highfield.
