Round Up - BHS, Gin, Vodafone

Eleven thousand jobs at high street retailer BHS could go if, as expected, the company is placed into administration. BHS, struggling under a £1.3billion debt and slumping sales, has tried to find new investment and a trade sale to save the business but with no success.

The number of new distilleries in England has jumped by a third in the last year to a record high of 28 due to the increasing demand for boutique spirits and the 'gin-aissance'. Accountancy group UHY Hacker Young said gin was becoming the drink of choice for young people. Partner James Simmonds said: “There is a new craze for gin based drinks and cocktails and many innovative new distillers are experimenting in new and adventurous ways of producing it.”
Mobile group Vodafone says its mobile money transfer service M-Pesa now has over 25million active customers. Across Africa, Asia and Europe customers rose 27.1% to 25.3million in the year ended March 31 boosted by launches in Albania and Ghana.
