The first outpost of NISP has now been completed in Derry. The EU INTERREG IVA-funded North West Regional Science Park officially opened its first building, the Innovation Centre, in September 2014.

The Innovation Centre provides 50,000 sq ft of super-connected flexible workspace in the city of Derry. It has its own data centre and is the home to specialists in enterprise software, ICT, digital media, health and bioscience, clean tech and television production.

The anchor tenant is Derry-based 8 over 8, a spin-out from the University of Ulster and now a leader in contract risk management software for the global oil and gas industry. The company was acquired earlier this year by Cambridge-based Aveva for £27.9 million.

The reach of the Science Park into the North West Business Technology Zone is further enhanced through a cross-border partnership with Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT). This was cemented with the completion of a 20,000 sq ft extension to LYIT’s successful CoLab in summer 2015.
