New oil links between Scotland and Mozambique

The Scottish Secretary David Mundell is to visit Mozambique as part of a move to forge a new trading partnership between Aberdeen and the town of Pemba.

The city has longstanding links with Mozambique and has been driving forward partnerships between the country and oil and gas companies in the north east of Scotland. However, it wants to build on that with a formal memorandum of understanding between Aberdeen and Pemba, which is in the north east of Mozambique, underpinned by an action plan designed to help Pemba create a local oil and gas hub based on the Aberdeen model.

Mozambique contains huge reserves of offshore natural gas, and is expected to become a major global producer in coming years. Aberdeen City Council has been awarded a £120,000 grant from the Foreign Office to help draw up the action plan for the Pemba hub.

The action plan will help boost much-needed growth and investment in Mozambique. It will also open up significant opportunities in consulting, supply chain, logistics and training for British companies, particularly those based in Scotland.

European travel compare site expands

GoEuro.co.uk, a search engine for comparing and booking rail, coach and flight travel across Europe, is launching its full product offering in France.

Travellers can now plan trips to more than 30,000 destinations all over France and across Europe – not just cities and airports like many other sites. They can compare rail, coach and air travel options in a single search, eliminating the need to visit multiple websites to plan their entire journey.

GoEuro CEO and founder Naren Shaam said, “The addition of France is great for our users and a milestone for GoEuro. We launched less than three years ago, at a time when this form of simple online search was only available for air travel. We are proud to be developing the technology behind an easy to use platform that will integrate Europe’s coach and rail networks with the airline industry, bringing this market into the 21st century.”
