12-hour days not unusual for British workers

Around 30 per cent of employees are staying late in the office, with one in six working more than 12 hours a day, according to a study by online marketplace Groupon.

The survey of 2,000 people revealed that almost half worked through their lunch break in the summer and that they worked longer hours in summer than in winter. Just over half said they did not spend enough time with their family or friends, although this was lower than in other countries such as Spain and Italy.

Groupon managing director Jon Wilson said: “The end of summer is approaching fast so every day this month should be treasured, especially by Brits who don’t always get as much sun as other parts of Europe.”
